Tennessee provides a few options for voting for individuals registered to vote in the state. Tennessee voters can vote early, on election day, or in some cases absentee-by-mail. To learn more about the options for voting in person, please review the information below.
What is Early Voting?
Early Voting is voting that allows you to vote ahead of election day. In Tennessee, the early voting period typically begins twenty (20) days before an election and ends five (5) days before an election. The exception is for the Presidential Preference Primary, when early voting ends seven (7) days before the election. One convenient thing about Early Voting is that you can vote at any early voting location in the county where you are registered. What is Election Day Voting?
Election Day Voting is voting that happens on election day. If you vote on election day, you must vote at your designated voting precinct location in Tennessee. You can find your location by searching here.
What is required to vote in person?
You must have one of these photo IDs below. IDs can be expired:
- Tennessee driver license with your photo
- United States Passport
- Photo ID issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security
- Photo ID issued by the federal or Tennessee state government
- United States Military photo ID
- Tennessee handgun carry permit with your photo
Can I use my VolCard or College ID?
No. In Tennessee Student College IDs are not an acceptable form of identification for voting.
