Register to Vote

You may have already registered to vote in your high school civics class, during a campus voter registration drive, when you updated your driver’s license, or at some other point in time. It is important to check your registration status to see if you are already registered to vote. If that information is current, you will want to record it for your voting plan. If the information is not current, you will want to update your voter registration. If no record is found and you are sure that you entered your information correctly, you will want to get registered using one of the options below.

Where you are registered will determine where you can vote. You should be registered to vote wherever you consider your home to be. If you move, be sure to update your vote registration. Register at a Campus Event

Check the Vols Vote Calendar to see when and where voter registration events are happening. (Note: If you register this way, you must vote in person your first time.)


Register Online (Tennessee Residents Only)

Visit the GoVoteTN app or GoVoteTN website. You’ll need a Tennessee State Issued ID to register online. (Note: If you register this way, you must vote in person your first time.)


Register Online (Other States)

Visit the TurboVote website to register to vote in another state. You will need to complete the form provided and follow all the relevant instructions.


Register at the County Election Commission (Tennessee Residents Only)

When registering at a Tennessee County Election Commission, you may be able to absentee-by-mail vote your first time if you meet the absentee voting criteria. (Note: If you register any other way, you will have to vote in person the first time.)

The Knoxville Election Commission is located at 300 Main St. in the Old Courthouse in downtown Knoxville. If you want to register to vote in another county in Tennessee, you can find the contact information for other Election Commissions here.


Download, Print & Mail a Registration Form (Tennessee Residents Only)

Download, complete, and mail the registration form. Find the address of your election commission and place a first-class stamp on the envelope. (Note: If you register this way, you must vote in person your first time.)
